Bio

Violist Tine Janssens began her studies at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven with M. Tooten, obtaining the degree of Master of Music (with great distinction) and the Pedagogic Certificate. Afterwards she studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Prof. P. Langgartner and at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Prof. J. Kussmaul, where she completed her studies with the second-phase diploma in 2002. She participated in several master classes, among others with Rivka Golani, Thomas Riebl, Yves Cortvrint and Leon Spierer.


While still a student, Tine was the leader of the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders and the World Youth Orchestra. From 2002, she served as associate principal at the Philharmonie Zuidnederland (formerly Brabants Orkest) in Eindhoven (The Netherlands). In 2015, she was appointed Solo Viola - Chef de Pupitre at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie (Liège, Belgium). She was also a regular guest with various orchestras in Belgium and the Netherlands including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. A passionate orchestral musician, she has played under the baton of Bernard Haitink, Valery Gergiev, Kurt Masur, Christian Thielemann and many others. Tine worked as a guest principal in orchestras such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, the Summer Opera, the Beethoven Academy, Le Concert Olympique and others.


From 1999 to 2016, Tine was part of Vlaams Sinfonietta, a contemporary music ensemble. 

Because of her great love for chamber music, she was a founding member of the string quartet Prosperus4 and she continues to play regularly in various formations with which she performs a divers repertoire.

Since the 2020-2021 academic year, Tine has been teaching viola at Luca - School of Arts in Leuven. From 2017 to 2020, she was an assistant at the IMEP in Namur.

Furthermore, in 2007 she obtained a postgraduate diploma in arts and culture management at the UA with the highest distinction, after which she was assigned several magement projects, including for Luca - School of Arts and for Vlaams Sinfonietta.

With the Brabant Orchestra, Tine was active as a concert presenter. For this she was coached by Roeland Kooijmans. With the Maranti String Trio, she was commissioned by this same orchestra to develop an educational performance for children aged 6 to 8, which ran for four seasons.


Tine plays a 19th century , Italian made viola by Giuseppe Dollenz.
